Jane Turner Censer is the author of North Carolina Planters and Their Children, 1800--1860, among other works, and most recently edited Like unto Like, a feminist novel by Sherwood Bonner about the Reconstruction South. She teaches history at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
