Sharper Axx has just become the first female sergeant of the Hostage Negotiation unit at the San Antonio Police Department. As a female in a male-dominated career field, misogyny is a constant battlefield, but she is up to the task of proving herself, having strived her whole life for this opportunity.
One would think that handling her first callout for a drunk man holding his wife and daughter hostage would be the biggest challenge of her first week in the new unit. But, no. There's also the upcoming parole hearing for an ex-boyfriend who's in prison for murder and shouldn't be up for parole at all.
Then, there's her 15-year high school reunion where she will come face-to-face with her high school true love who betrayed her. She's also found out they will be working together in her unit. She begins to think another callout would be preferable to seeing him again. She half gets her wish when she becomes an actual hostage at the reunion. That starts a chain reaction of events that she finds out are all connected?and could get her killed.
Can she successfully navigate the boys' club and two completely different exes, while keeping herself alive and the rest of the community safe?
