When she was a preschool teacher, Carol Stock Kranowitz was curious about why certain young children responded in unusual ways to
sensations that did not bother most kids. She learned about sensory integration and processing and wrote the first edition of The Out-of-Sync Child in 1998 to help parents and teachers understand and support kids who may be over-sensitive, under-sensitive, confused, poorly coordinated, and/or challenged in other mystifying ways. A graduate of Barnard College of Columbia University, she earned an M.A. in Education and Human Development from the George Washington University. Carol lives in Maryland with her partner Mark
and has two sons and daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. She plays the cello, walks three miles a day, and answers every email.
