This is the story of how a young man's life is impacted as women work to save the world from the long-standing, planet-threatening abuses triggered by the male libido. With nature as a dominating force, Stone, the young narrator, struggles through his own gender awakening in the company of his first-love Cohy, contrary rural neighbors, his troublesome dog Jasper; irrepressible Uncle Alvin; the benevolent Maggie; and nemesis Lizzie who runs The Little Hope Church and questions the gender of Jesus as well as Stone's inability to listen. As the women pull out all the stops in dealing with their gender revolution they enact laws specifying that men sit down to urinate, prohibits stag parties and arranges to have women work to save municipal water systems laced with libido-dampening chemicals. Violence ensues as both genders sort through the history of unspeakable sexual violence as it occurred down through history and especially during the early settlement days. Stone grapples with it all as devastating messages come to him via Cohy's long black hair, and scientists turn Native American studies into a game of hopscotch.
