An Applied Introduction to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, edited by Shannon Sipes, Nancy L. Chick, and Laura Cruz, is forthcoming from Indiana University Press in Spring 2027.
Shannon Sipes is Director of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Program and Lead Instructional Consultant in the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning at Indiana University. Her work as an academic developer spans over 20 years with expertise in assessment, SoTL, mixed methods research approaches, and curriculum design. Her most recent book (with Mandy Frake and Jennifer C. Friberg) is TILTed Pedagogy: A Collection of Evidence-Based Assignments to Inspire Learning in Higher Education.
Nancy L. Chick is Executive Director of Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship and Professor of English at Texas Woman's University. Her most recent book (with Peter Felten and Katarina Mårtensson) is The SoTL Guide: (Re)Orienting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She is also the editor of SoTL in Action: Illuminating Critical Moments of Practice and was the founding coeditor of Teaching & Learning Inquiry, the ISSOTL journal. She lives in Denton, TX.
Laura Cruz is a Research Professor with the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence at Penn State. She has previously served as a tenured faculty member and director of two centers for teaching and learning. She is the prior editor of four academic journals and the current coeditor of The Journal of General Education. She is also the coeditor of three recent volumes in the New Directions for Teaching and Learning series focused on the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).
