As they face being put out, penniless, on the streets of New York in winter, Garret and Holly must scrape along in the pains of sickness and desperation for an answer. Through failure, calamity and poor judgment, Garret ends up in Holly's West Virginia hometown where he is brought to a reckoning of bizarre proportion as his life and the lives around him entangle and unthread in a big-city/small-town clash with madness and despair.
