Zusammenfassung

This book addresses the new applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and optimization problems to structural and geotechnical engineering and provides a broad perspective on the current design practice. It is centred on the ways AI and machine learning can be exploited to streamline the design processes with special emphasis on the large and complicated engineering projects. It explores how genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimization are used as metaheuristic algorithms to optimize the use of material, which is becoming more critical in the light of challenges of sustainability. In addition, the adoption of technologies such as IoT and blockchain is also discussed and offers new ways of creating smarter, more resilient infrastructure.

The book also puts an accent on practical implementation, specifically the creation of disaster-resilient infrastructure. The use of green concrete, geopolymers, and recycled materials are also discussed, showing how these solutions can help to minimize the environmental pollution of the construction process. The book strikes a good balance between the theoretical background and practical case studies that demonstrate that the engineering world is changing due to AI and optimization methods and techniques. These case studies are priceless lessons on the application of these technologies to solve some of the worldwide issues of concern, including global warming and resource efficiency.

Students, researchers and practitioners in civil engineering, structural design, and geotechnical engineering are the target audience of the book. It will attract individuals who want to incorporate the use of advanced technologies such as AI and optimization in their designs and those concerned with developing sustainable, disaster-resistant infrastructure.

Vedprakash C. Maralapalle is an Associate Professor at L. S. Raheja School of Architecture, Mumbai, with over 12 years of professional experience in teaching and the civil engineering field. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from NMIMS University, Mumbai, with research focused on the physical modelling and numerical analysis of vertical piles, along with an M.E. in Structural Engineering and a B.E. in Civil Engineering. He has also undertaken postdoctoral research in Civil Engineering at Amity University, Dubai. His areas of research interest include physical modelling in geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, concrete technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications in civil engineering.

Jayatheja Muktinutalapati an academician and researcher in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
